Yes believe it or not June 18th
is supposed to be the longest day of the year
here in Chicago where the sun comes up the earliest
and sets the latest.
Jun 18, 2010 (5:15 AM thru 8:29 PM )
15h 13m 17s
Unfortunately it is all down hill from now on!
As you can see Frankfort holds a 5K run
every year to honor this day.
Since I hadn't been in a few years
and I needed a new T-shirt to sleep in
(now you know the secret to my 32 year marriage, I sleep in T-shirts and athletic pants)
I decided to go!
It was a hot one yesterday the temp was 84 degrees
when I left home at 6pm
They say that your body heats up
20 degrees when you work out...I believe it
so that is like running with a body temp of 104 (yikes)
This comes in handy when your out in the winter running
and a 20 degree day becomes 40 degrees,
not so much on a hot June night.
Your body definitely makes a better furnace then it does an air conditioner.
So I started out slow, but then I saw a lady up ahead running in the same NEW sports top I had just bought
and that ticked me off so I had to speed up so I could pass her.
That accomplished I tried to just relax, breathe and finish!
But then I realised this cute younger girl up ahead just bouncing along with her long pony tail swishing back and forth, and I thought OK I will move up behind her and just sort of "pace" off of her.
Which was a very nice comfortable pace.
Then I heard a baby crying behind me.
When I looked over a Mother pushing a double jogging stroller
with what looked to be a 4 year old and an infant inside, went past me!!!!
Are you kidding me?
She ran on ahead talking to the kids telling them
we will be done in a minute.
So after I swallowed my pride, I continued on trying to finish with a little dignity.
BUT as the running Gods would have it when I turned the corner to finish the final stretch I saw her again
this time she must have stopped and let the 4 year old out of the stroller because he was running next to her!
I saw my opportunity and seized it!
I blew past her and her son and finished with a smile on my face.
Its a Good Life
